Monday Fun day...

Usually Mondays go a little slow coming back from a nice weekend... but this one went pretty quickly and was really pretty great! I taught 3 year-olds about the letter "I" (and we made pretty cool bumblebees...), I taught two ballet classes how to saute, I attended a scentsy party for a good friend, then I came home to my loving pets.

Plus, last night I made the most delicious smoothie with our new blender:
1/2 Cup lemon sorbet
1 Cup frozen blueberries
1 Cup applesauce
ice cubes
Amazing. The lemon sorbet itself it awesome- it was from Forward Foods but I can't remember the name of it... some Italian name :)

Now I'm ready to find a place just like this to relax and eat my lemon blueberry sorbet all day!

chilly morning...

This morning I got to see the first fogged up backdoor window due to the chilly morning outside. I stepped out with Ponce, still barefoot and in PJs, and I had to go back in for a jacket and some shoes. I'm loving it... I just hope it stays... no more 90 degree weather, please!

My good friend, Erin, will be having a baby in March. I am incredibly excited. She finds out Tuesday if she is carrying a baby boy or a baby girl. I wonder what it feels like to be pregnant... I'll find out someday! By then, maybe Erin will have some tips for me :)

Today has been a very dancy day... Perpetual Motion rehearsals this morning and this evening I'm teaching a modern duet to two studio students... it's a fun piece, so I expect rehearsal to be fun!

Nearly October...

I can't believe it will be October in 1 WEEK! Are there seriously only 3 months left of 2010!? It seems so strange that it will be 2011...

I am getting excited about Halloween! I bought some Halloween lights at Target for 2 bucks that will look pretty cool... we'll need to make a Jack-o-lantern in a couple weeks :)

Yesterday at a yard sale I bought a "can of lights"... it should have read "huge can of awesome lights"... for 2 bucks. It had 7 strands of lights, but only 5 work. But they are all different: plain & clear lights, flower lights, twinkling lights, twinkling to Christmas music lights, and fading in & out lights (my favorite). I am excited to use them!

Here are some spook-tacular crafts from Better Homes & Gardens:

Grey Squirrel, Grey Squirrel...

"Grey Squirrel, Grey Squirrel
Swish your bushy tail...
Grey Squirrel, Grey Squirrel
Swish your bushy tail...
Wrinkle up your little nose,
Put a nut between your toes...
Grey Squirrel, Grey Squirrel
Swish your bushy tail."

I've had that stuck in my head for over a week- I even sing it in the shower! Its a song from Munchkin Music at work... very catchy, indeed :)

iDance was a success last weekend- there were groups from Texas, Oklahoma, Florida & California! It was a small concert but worth the trip.

I've decided I am too busy... but it is too late to cut anything out at this point. So, I vowed that as soon as this school year is over (starting June 2011) I'm cutting back and REALLY prioritizing. I like most everything I'm committed to, but I usually don't see Aust until 10:30 at night, and I leave every morning at 7:15... its just hard. I'd like to see him and the pets more often! Plus I like having time to do fun, enjoyable, completely unimportant things (like blogging). Having 11 hours of everyday (except Saturday) scheduled is a bit hectic. I think I have truly learned my lesson this time- but I'll stick it out until the end of the school year!

Here are some of my favorite pictures I found a while back but never posted. I'd love to have the Seahorse framed and on my wall (maybe sometime in the future!)...

I love my furries...

I love coming home to my pets after I've been at work/rehearsal/teaching/running errinds. They always love you no matter what. I just wish I could spend more time with them!

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

Wow! Lots of rain lately... I am ready for snow :) I love winter and the holidays! I do wish it would stop raining so I could take my dog out to play- he gets a little bored having to stay in :( Ponce LOVES playing ball, but I think I may get him one of these new toys from Martha Stewart's new pet line (I can't say I'm a huge fan of the lady... but I do love her stuff!):

Ponce gets pretty excited when he plays... but I'm not sure he looks this crazy, lol:

Anyway, I had some crazy rehearsals the past 3 days for an Afro-Cuban dance work about Yemaya. I love the dance and can't wait to perform it in November at our Perpetual Motion concert!

And I will leave you with two of my favorite web shopping finds:

(Etsy by Sew Sweet Stitches, $28)

Oldies but Goodies...

I absolutely LOVE looking at old photos… even if I don't know anyone in them. It is just neat to think how much things change in really such a short amount of time! In August at my parent's 35th anniversary, we put up some old photos for everyone at the party to enjoy. Here are some of my faves:

My brother Aaron & my dad
Me and my dad
My brother Aaron
Mom & me sharing a sucker
I love recording life through photos. Though sometimes I do need to remember to simply enjoy the moment rather than try to snap as many photos as possible. Time flies!

I have been very lazy about loading my photos onto my computer. I'm not sure why, because it doesn't take very long... I just always forget to do it until I have to be somewhere or I need to go to bed. So here are some photos of things I've been meaning to post that have happened in the past couple of months...

Painted my toenails a perfect shade of blue:

Lovely 'Mrs. Conner' apron from my RC girls :)

Enjoying the view from the kitchen (I love my curtains!):

Chocolate-Orange cookies I made:

My wonderful Arts Adventure class!

A hair clip I made at RC's craft night:

A headband I decorated also at RC's craft night:

On our 2nd anniversary trip to Dallas- at the Arboretum!

It was BEAUTIFUL there!

Sugar cookies I made for our anniversary (notice the elephant and seahorse shapes... our favorite animals!)
Recipe for mom's sugar cookies:
Sift together
3 C sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 scant tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
Cut in 1 C shortening (like a pastry)
Add in 2 eggs
Beat together in a separate bowl
1 C granulated sugar
4 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Mix this with dry ingredients
Refrigerate for one hour
Roll out on a floured surface
Cut with cookie cutters and place on greased cookie sheets
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes
For icing mix together
powdered sugar

Peach pie in progress:

Success! Delicious peach pie!
Recipe for mom's peach pie:
For crusts (make 2)
mix 1 1/4 C flour, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tbsp sugar.
add 7 tbsp shortening and mix until crumbly.
separate one egg and blend yolk with 3 1/2 tbsp water.
add this to the egg/water mixture - will be sticky.
form a ball and refrigerate at least 15 minutes.
For filling
peel 5 C porter peaches (about 9 whole peaches).
add 1 tsp lemon juice.
in a separate bowl mix 1 C sugar, 1/4 C flour, 1/2 tsp (or more) cinnamon.
pour over the peaches and mix well.
For pie
roll dough out on floured surface into a circle.
fold in half and lift onto the pie plate.
unfold. if dough tears use water to smash back together with fingers.
pour in peach filling.
put 4 dots of butter on peaches.
roll out second dough like the 1st.
lay over the pie and smooth.
use fingers to pinch edges together, removing any overflow.
cut slits on top in a pattern to vent (and make it pretty).
sprinkle granulated sugar on top.
put foil on the edge of the crust to prevent burning.
bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.
undo foil the last 10 minutes of baking.
let cool completely so it will not be runny.
SERVE with vanilla ice cream!
